Which Countries Export the Most Bakery Products?

Global exports have posted steady growth over the last few years, with an average annual rate of +4.9%. In 2015, exports on the global bakery product market expanded to 10,497 thousand tonnes. In value terms, this was 29,475 million USD, a decline of 6% less against the previous year.

Sweet biscuits accounted for the largest share of exports, with 2,554 thousand tonnes (24% of total exports) in 2015. It proved to be one of the most popular products in terms of global exports, growing with a CAGR of +4.9% from 2007 to 2015. It was followed by waffles and wafers, accounting for 8% share of total exports, with a CAGR of +4.5%. Rusks, toasted bread and similar toasted products assumed third position in the ranking with a share of 3%, followed by crispbread (2%) and gingerbread and the like (1%).

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, Germany (1,292 thousand tonnes) was the main exporter of bread and bakery products in the world, comprising 12% of global exports. From 2007 to 2015, average annual growth rates of bread and bakery product exports from Germany stood at +3.9%.

The U.S. held the second spot in this ranking with a 6% share, followed by France (6%) and Belgium (6%). The U.S. has the highest annual grows rate of +6.8%, while other leaders (France and Belgium) showed more modest growth of +3.0% and +2.6%, respectively, over the last eight years.
