Garlic Price in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average garlic import price amounted to $2,232 per ton, picking up by 53% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 93% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,523 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,588 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,095 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Albania (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Garlic Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2022
The average garlic export price stood at $1,526 per ton in 2022, reducing by -28.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 46%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,837 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($3,802 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($599 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+26.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Garlic Imports in Bulgaria
In 2022, overseas purchases of garlic decreased by -28.2% to 425 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 44%.
In value terms, garlic imports shrank significantly to $523K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $790K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Garlic Exports in Bulgaria
In 2022, the amount of garlic exported from Bulgaria skyrocketed to 183 tons, rising by 130% on the previous year. Overall, exports enjoyed a remarkable increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
