Ginger Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average ginger export price amounted to $2,220 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 27% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,223 per ton in July 2023, and then dropped slightly in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($2,390 per ton) and the UK ($2,380 per ton), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($1,753 per ton) and the Netherlands ($2,171 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average ginger import price amounted to $2,028 per ton, declining by -32.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $2,999 per ton in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($5,308 per ton), while the price for China ($1,367 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Ginger Exports in Brazil
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of ginger, when their volume decreased by -17.8% to 34K tons. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year.
In value terms, ginger exports shrank rapidly to $33M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 127%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $50M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Ginger Imports in Brazil
In 2022, approx. 525 tons of ginger were imported into Brazil; increasing by 39% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 54%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 760 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
