Molasse Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average molasse import price amounted to $207 per ton, growing by 4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $353 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($216 per ton), while the price for Belize ($142 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Molasse Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average molasse export price stood at $1,416 per ton in September 2023, falling by -16.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,702 per ton in August 2023, and then fell rapidly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,636 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada stood at $1,262 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+3.4%).

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. Molasse Exports in the United States
In 2022, the amount of molasses exported from the United States skyrocketed to 35K tons, increasing by 44% against 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 69%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 76K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, molasse exports skyrocketed to $34M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +23.9% over the last three years.
