Mushroom and Truffle Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average mushroom and truffle import price amounted to $2,278 per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,939 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($2,323 per ton), while the price for China stood at $1,984 per ton.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-1.9%).

Mushroom and Truffle Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average mushroom and truffle export price amounted to $10,844 per ton, with a decrease of -86.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $77,763 per ton in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($691,295 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brunei Darussalam ($3,683 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+23.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mushroom and Truffle Imports in Australia

In 2022, approx. 4.5K tons of mushrooms and truffles were imported into Australia; standing approx. at the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, mushroom and truffle imports rose markedly to $13M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years.
