In 2022, the average onion and shallot import price amounted to $587 per ton, surging by 1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 71%. The import price peaked at $603 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,241 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($579 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Price in the Dominican Republic (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average onion and shallot export price amounted to $1,346 per ton, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turks and Caicos Islands (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Imports in the Dominican Republic
In 2022, approx. 16K tons of onion and shallot were imported into the Dominican Republic; growing by 11% on 2021.
