Orange Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average orange import price amounted to $774 per ton, surging by 72% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 543% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($1,804 per ton), while the price for Zimbabwe ($673 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Orange Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average orange export price amounted to $547 per ton, growing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $867 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Uganda ($719 per ton) and South Sudan ($622 per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($498 per ton) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($517 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Orange Imports in Kenya
In 2022, imports of oranges into Kenya reduced rapidly to 7K tons, with a decrease of -49% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 10% against the previous year.
In value terms, orange imports declined to $5.4M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Orange Exports in Kenya
In 2022, shipments abroad of oranges decreased by -22.2% to 1.2K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 306%.
In value terms, orange exports reduced to $630K in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 274% against the previous year.
