Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Slovenia (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average preserved sauerkraut import price amounted to $3,239 per ton, with a decrease of -8% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, preserved sauerkraut import price increased by +8.9% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 33% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,519 per ton in August 2023, and then dropped in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Serbia ($7,892 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,024 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Price in Slovenia (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average preserved sauerkraut export price amounted to $3,960 per ton, surging by 4.9% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated moderate growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, preserved sauerkraut export price increased by +11.1% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 60% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,132 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Bosnia and Herzegovina ($5,584 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($1,887 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Preserved Sauerkraut Imports in Slovenia

In 2022, the amount of preserved sauerkraut imported into Slovenia reached 3.3K tons, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 3.4%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut imports declined to $7M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $7.3M, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Preserved Sauerkraut Exports in Slovenia

In 2022, overseas shipments of preserved sauerkraut decreased by -25% to 582 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 47%.

In value terms, preserved sauerkraut exports contracted rapidly to $1.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +26.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 31%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.4M, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
