In 2022, the average export price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes amounted to $356 per ton, rising by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 295% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,997 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($9,364 per ton), while the price for Turkey totaled $312 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by North Macedonia (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
