In November 2023, the average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $5,805 per ton, waning by -5.4% against the previous month. Over the period from November 2022 to November 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,136 per ton in October 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($7,770 per ton), while the price for Azerbaijan ($4,476 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+31.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $4,527 per ton in 2022, dropping by -9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 11%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $6,122 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Belgium ($5,315 per ton) and Italy ($4,212 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,042 per ton) and Greece ($4,058 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
