After five years of growth, production of coconuts decreased by -0.9% to 1.8M tons in 2022. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 1.9% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 1.8M tons, leveling off in the following year. Coconut output in Papua New Guinea indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a modest expansion in yield figures.
In value terms, coconut production shrank notably to $874M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a buoyant expansion. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
