Millet Production in Russia - 2022
In 2022, production of millet was finally on the rise to reach 382K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, the total production indicated a moderate expansion from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -13.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 102% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 440K tons. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure. Millet output in Russia indicated moderate growth, which was largely conditioned by a measured increase of the harvested area and a slight reduction in yield figures.
In value terms, millet production fell to $130M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 136%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $152M. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Millet Harvested Area in Russia - 2022
In 2022, the millet harvested area in Russia soared to 315K ha, rising by 17% on the year before. Overall, the total harvested area indicated a prominent expansion from 2017 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, millet harvested area decreased by -12.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. The millet harvested area peaked at 360K ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Millet Yield in Russia - 2022
The average yield of millet in Russia dropped to 1.2 tons per ha in 2022, shrinking by -10.9% against the previous year. In general, the yield showed a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of 1.4 tons per ha, and then shrank in the following year.
