In 2022, the average sesame seed export price amounted to $2,037 per ton, growing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sesame seed export price increased by +113.3% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Jordan ($2,037 per ton) and Morocco ($2,037 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($2,037 per ton) and Israel ($2,037 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sesame Seed Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sesame seed import price amounted to $2,268 per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sesame seed import price increased by +72.1% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Sesame Seed Exports in Egypt
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of sesame seed, when their volume decreased by -17.2% to 26K tons.
