Spices; Mixtures Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022

The average spices; mixtures import price stood at $5,646 per ton in 2022, surging by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 38%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($23,051 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($575 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+35.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average spices; mixtures export price amounted to $3,355 per ton, falling by -7.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2021 an increase of 5.6% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,676 per ton in July 2021; however, from August 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($8,631 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($1,210 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Spices; Mixtures Imports in Malaysia

In 2022, imports of spices; mixtureses into Malaysia shrank to 394 tons, with a decrease of -6.6% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 4.8% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 422 tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, spices; mixtures imports fell slightly to $2.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 2.9%.
