Spices; Saffron Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022

The average spices; saffron import price stood at $7,505 per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 68%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $15,239 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($36,854 per ton), while the price for India ($3,886 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+24.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($12,778 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($1,017 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+24.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $21K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
