In value terms, exercise book exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Kenya (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and South Africa (X tons), together reaching X% of total export. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons) and Rwanda (X tons), together constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Uganda (X tons) and Sudan (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest exercise book supplying countries in Africa were Kenya ($X), South Africa ($X) and Tunisia ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Rwanda, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Sudan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of exercise books was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exercise book imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of exercise books, namely Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Togo, Rwanda, Madagascar, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Cameroon, Angola, Zambia and Congo, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Djibouti (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

In Ethiopia, exercise book imports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Rwanda (X% per year) and Madagascar (X% per year).
