Malawi (X tons) remains the largest mango and mangosteen producing country in SADC, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, mango and mangosteen production in Malawi exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Tanzania (X tons), fourfold. Madagascar (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Malawi totaled X%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Tanzania (X% per year) and Madagascar (X% per year).
In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen yield in SADC shrank modestly to X tons per ha, leveling off at the previous year's figure. The yield indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mango and mangosteen yield decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
South Africa represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. Mozambique (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Malawi (X%). The following exporters - Zambia (X tons) and Swaziland (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total exports.
Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Zambia (X%), Swaziland (X%), Malawi (X%) and Mozambique (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa and Swaziland increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malawi ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malawi (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Mango And Mangosteen Imports
Imports in SADC
In 2022, overseas purchases of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
South Africa represented the major importer of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in SADC, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Botswana (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons) and Namibia (X tons). All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. Lesotho (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mango and mangosteen imports into South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Lesotho (X%), Mozambique (X%) and Botswana (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lesotho emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Namibia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of South Africa (X p.p.), Lesotho (X p.p.) and Mozambique (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Namibia (X p.p.), Botswana (X p.p.) and Tanzania (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mozambique, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in SADC amounted to $X per ton, waning by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mozambique ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
