Molasse Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average molasse export price stood at $302 per ton in August 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a noticeable increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, molasse export price decreased by -3.6% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 an increase of 26% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $319 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($491 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($277 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molasse Price in Germany (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average molasse import price amounted to $231 per ton, rising by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 24%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($570 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($177 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molasse Exports in Germany
Molasse exports from Germany dropped significantly to 225K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -48.2% compared with the previous year. In general, exports saw a precipitous decrease. The smallest decline of -12.2% was in 2021.
In value terms, molasse exports dropped notably to $48M in 2022. Overall, exports faced a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 2.7%.

Molasse Imports in Germany
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of molasses increased by 22% to 106K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, molasse imports surged to $24M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
